Dr. Weimin He

Biographical Notes  

 

Weimin He (b. 1964, Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang province, China) Associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, member of Chinese Artists’ Association, began practicing art at an early age, studying drawing and painting when he was a teenager. He studied oil painting, Chinese ink painting and history of art in the Harbin College of Art where he was awarded a B.A. degree in 1986. From1988 to 1991, he studied printmaking under Prof. Quan Xianguang and Lu Tan at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, Northeast China, and obtained his M.A. degree in 1991. Following on in the same year he worked as a professional artist in the Institute of Art in Heilongjiang Artists’ Association, until he was awarded the Muban Foundation Scholarship (now The Muban Educational Trust in London) in the autumn of 1999, when he entered the School of Art and Design at the University of Ulster to study printmaking. In 2005, under the supervision of Prof. David Barker and Dr. Alastair Herron, he was awarded a Ph.D. and started to work as the Christensen Fellow of Chinese painting at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford. Currently He works as artist-in-residence at the Oxford University Estates Directorate. His work spans a variety of techniques and media, including printmaking, ink painting, oil painting and seal cutting. He has also acted as curator of a number of exhibitions of Chinese art. His artworks are in many public and private collections, including The British Museum and The China National Gallery.
